Lepidus
Lepidus supported Mark Antony after Caesar's death; later a
part of the ruling second Triumvirate. After the death of Julius Caesar,
Lepidus controlled the parts of Gaul, Spain, and Africa and wielded great influence.
He and Mark Antony opposed the republican conspirators and in 43 formed the
Second Triumvirate with Octavius (later Augustus). He acquired a second Spanish
province but lost Spain and Gaul to Antony and Octavius, and now he is keeping only Africa.
After helping defeat Pompeius, he challenged Octavius, but his soldiers were
defected and he was forced to retire.
